Tomoaki Nakanishi, Project Fellow, Data for Common Purpose Initiative, C4IR, World Economic Forum
Tomoaki Nakanishi has more than twenty-year professional experience as government official of Government of Japan, where he has been in charge of enhancing competitiveness of the Japanese economy through economic policies. In 2000, he joined the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). There he had participated in making wide range of policy areas such as small and medium enterprise policy, innovation policy, competition policy and energy policy.
His recent activity at the government was making the annual growth strategy as director of the Cabinet Secretariat Office under the supervision of the then Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. There he focused on promoting digitalization and open innovation of Japanese companies as the most important challenges that the Japanese economy was facing. He took the initiative to start programs of deregulation suitable for the digital era.
Based on his rich professional experiences in the METI and Cabinet Secretariat Office, Tomoaki was assigned to the executive and managerial position, Executive Director at Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) San Francisco in November 2020. There he is dedicated to the fellowship of the World Economic Forum (WEF) through contribution to the discussion and research regarding data policy. In order to realize the accomplishments based on the activities in the JETRO and WEF, he is assigned to Special Adviser to the METI as well.
